anti-weed ny republican just got busted for weed Source http://content.animalnewyork.com/wp-content/uploads/katzblunt.jpg

Meet Assemblyman Steve Katz, New York’s Ted Haggard — or Gary Aldridge — of cannabis.

In June, the Republican lawmaker voted no on a bill that would give doctors the right to prescribe weed for chronic medical conditions, a measure similar to one touted as arguably the most conservative of its kind in the country by State Senator Diane Savino.

Well, surprise, surprise — last night the medicine-hating zealot Katz had a little run-in with a trooper on the New York Thruway:

A 59-year-old Republican who voted no last year on a bill to legalize medical marijuana, had been traveling 80 mph on I-87 through Coeymans, N.Y., where the speed limit is 65 mph, state police said. During the speeding stop, police said a trooper noted the odor of marijuana and found Mr. Katz in possession of a small bag.

State police released Mr. Katz with a ticket and ordered him to appear in court on March 28. He didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
