Growing

For the past few weeks, I’ve been growing two plants in my apartment in Denver, with the intent of juicing cannabis as it grows.

Overall, everything is going well. I’ve been following The Other Tomato feeding schedule and have added another soil booster that definitely is making the plants grow. They have starting producing really big fan leaves and should be ready to bloom in about 2 weeks.

I’ve been waiting for the clones, which I bought from an MMC in Denver and have been growing in a soilless medium using organic nutrients, to get to the point where they are producing enough fan leaves to be able to juice. While it is not a good idea to trim off too many fan leaves during the vegetation stage (since the fan leaves attract light and removing too many of them will damage the overall plant’s health), it is a good idea to remove larger leaves when starting to flower to allow for more growth from the buds.

I was going to wait a few weeks until I started the flower phase to start juicing. But then I went and saw The Wizard.

The Wizard is just a good friend of mine who is master grower at a dispensary in Denver; easily one of the most knowledgeable growers I know. I bumped into him at the last meet and greet and told him about my plants. He said I was welcome to come kick it at his house and check out his grow, and that he could probably give me a few plants to mess around with.

I took him up on it as soon as I could, and he gave me a much more mature plant to take home to my grow. He wanted to give me several more plants, but I definitely don’t have the room. I settled on a Third Dimension since I know that to be a sativa, meaning it’s fairly hardy and won’t mind the slightly higher-than-optimal temperature in the closet.

Because the closet space I’m using is quite small, I had to make a decision as to which plant to take out. I decided to go ahead and pull the Killer Skunk Berry, since the Triple Diesel I have growing seem to be a bit taller.

Instead of just throwing the KSB away, however, I now had the perfect place to start with my experiment with juicing cannabis. Since the plant has been in the veg state for the last few weeks, it’s grown a decent amount of fan leaves.

I do concede that the young plant’s fan leaves probably doesn’t have the same THC-A content as a more mature plant, but I’m in a unique position to be able to juice a plant since I don’t have the room to keep it alive.

Stay tuned for a separate post on the by-the-numbers details on juicing cannabis.
