The name alone gets your attention!

You’d be excused for thinking it was named by Debra Morgan.

Alaskan Thunderfuck is the generic name for a very old and revered hybrid strain whose proper name is Matanuska Thunderfuck (although at least one writer claims that’s more of a market name for any weed grown in the Matanuska Valley), and which (in original form, at least) has probably long since disappeared, unless there’s some grizzled old Yosemite Sam-type still around growing it. More recently, it’s been marketed as Matanuska Tundra, which sounds more organic and just a bit more family-friendly.

I ran into some of this great stuff two years ago at a (now closed) dispensary. The budtender liked me, or something. He had some behind the counter and weighed it for me into a bag that had a different name pre-printed onto it, and made sure I knew to “mark it Alaskan Thunderfuck as soon as you get home so you don’t forget!” He knew I had low tolerance and wanted to make sure I’d be OK. But I wasn’t about to forget a strain whose acronym was “ATF” :-)

Of course, after just two or three tokes, I was saying, “So that’s why they call it Thunderfuck…”

It hits like the proverbial ton of bricks, and the most interesting part is that it can feel like both an energetic, happy-making, uplifting sativa and a pain-whomping, knock-you-on-your ass indica at the same time. I find that vaping it lightly brings on the sativa effects, but smoking it or vaping at a higher temperature tends to make it more indica…ish.

Almost any dosage will put a smile on your face, but either smoking or vaping too much may well make you feel like you’ve been blindsided by a moose. And it’s very easy to take too much ATF, because it smells and tastes just wonderful.

Here are a few examples of what some other people have to say about this strain:

  • Cannabis Search says: “has a dirty name and a nasty reputation for unbridled power.”
  • Weed Reviewer says: “Long lasting, heavy hitting.”
  • KGB says: “a creeper, registering slowly and growing to a full, lethargic stone in the 5-10 minutes after a bong hit.”
  • High Times says, “the original one-hit wonder of the last frontier—and once you’ve tried it, you’ll know why…”

TL,DR: If you ever get a chance to pick up some of this, don’t pass it up. And if you do get some…you’ll wish you had picked up some more!
