The chillum pipe is the evolutionary cousin of the steamroller pipe we looked at a few weeks back. A simple tube packed with weed on one end and smoked from the other (the steamroller has a carb, lacking on the chillum). There is nothing more basic than a chillum, so functional and some beautiful.

The History of the Chillum Pipe

According to Wikipedia: “A chillum, or chilam, is a straight conical pipe with end-to-end channel, traditionally made of clay and used since at least the 18th century by wandering Hindu monks, known as sadhus in India. More recently, it has also seen use in sacraments by Rastafarians in Jamaica, and by recreational drug users to smoke cannabis…”

How to Hit a Chillum Pipe

You can hit a chillum the same way you use a dugout or one-hitter, but the traditional method is a bit more difficult. In the traditional method, you use your hands as a chamber for smoke and only put your lips up to your hands. Here’s a a video of the traditional method:
