Drafting without Drafts: Fantasy Football 2013

Football is finally back!!! College football started last week and the big boys kick-off on Thursday. I must admit though, what I am really stoked about is the Fantasy Football 2013 season.

I’ve always been a fan of the game, but Fantasy Football has made me a geek in recent years. For those not familiar, the fantasy season begins with a draft… a bunch of guys get together and take turns selecting players (from Ferarris down to Geo Metros) all in hopes of social-level pigskin glory. Anyway, this process generally takes about 2 hours (for “Snake” draft), and whether you’re at home at your keyboard or at your boy’s house –it’s a beer thing.

Now I do agree quite emphatically that on game day, IPA and football go together like peanut butter and chocolate, but what about draft day? Ask anyone that knows the game and they’ll tell you the line between victory and defeat is often thinner than an EZ Wider. Bottom line is, drafts determine winners, and I’m  here to tell you to draft stoned this year! Think about it in terms of video games: on the one hand they’re fun as hell loaded, on the other hand you always suck when you’re tipsy. Friends should not let friends draft drunk.

And don’t just draft on grass people; draft on a Sativa. FF is about patience and analysis, not impulse and name chasing. While the drunk bastards around you take kickers in the 6^th round, you will have sleeper pick tunnel vision. In my opinion, nothing works better for that than some Haze or Diesel.

My fantasy picks for dabs this season are Sour Diesel or Super Lemon Haze. For those wondering where my loyalties lie, in college I like my football like I like my haze, purple (GO DAWGS!). And on Sundays, true to my roots (even on this West Coast), I am a New York Football Giant. However, I gotta give a shout out to the Seattle Seahawks.
