Needless Victims

Some would say by the weight of his sins. I say a person’s worth is based on his compassion.

Michael Brooks, Re-Location Fund for Survival:

When you sit back and watch the seconds fall off into infinity, what are you thinking of? Michael Brooks, a Tennessee resident, tends to watch the clock a little differently, and he understands one of life’s most precious values, time. Suffering from chronic Hepatitis-C  for the better part of twenty years, he lives on a regiment of medications that arrive in bio-hazard boxes with legal disclaimers and raise the toxicity of his blood.

For all this, he still deals with having his platelet count of only ~30,000 (vs. an average of 237k platelets for males), spontaneous bleeding, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, stress, insomnia, loss of appetite, and has wasted down to 138 lbs.

“My doctor did prescribe me Marinol 2.5 the other day. He is familiar with the positive effects of cannabis on the body, but this area is restricted in such a way that it’s a very small amount, probably not enough to make a difference… I found out it’s just because of where I live. If I lived 800 miles in one of two directions, then I would be able to get this live-saving medication [cannabis]. But since I’m geographically located in a hypocritical area of our nation, I’m suffering like hell. I’m miserable, the quality of life is… miserable.”

Michael Brooks represents a new trend, Crowd Sourced Mercy. As Social Media becomes the World’s Go-to News outlet; Compassionate philanthropists are able to get face-to-face with the People that can ‘truly’ benefit.

Compassion can come in many forms, but all Michael Brooks hopes for is medicine and a chance to witness the birth of his 1st son.

At which point do you avert your eyes? Race. Religion. Creed. Social Status. These terms mean nothing when paled by the gravity of Choice. Why do we as human beings in the year 2013 hold on to a vestigial standard of basic human rights?

“I’m not saying that smoking marijuana recreationally is right or wrong, I would say that it would have to be a personal decision. But whether or not a person can get such a natural drug in a desperate time of need that I’m dealing with daily, that should be a no-brainer.”

When does compassion triumph over policy and jurisdiction? What stirs the embers of your soul to the flame of a phoenix? Michael hopes that by bearing his soul to the depths of the Internet, that a few kind-hearted individuals hear his plea.

“We are desperately seeking re-location funds…for medical treatment. Currently living in Tennessee and looking to move to Colorado. No longer eligible for Pegintron treatment. We have heard of alternative treatments in Colorado.”

Change can happen at any time, but the greatest change starts with the stirrings of the heart.
