Seattle’s Kiro 7 News reports on Michael R. Saffioti, a 22 year old man who collapsed and died in prison after being arrested for a small amount of marijuana. Michael grew up with life-threatening dairy allergies and asthma which we so severe that the local medics knew him on a first name basis.
The Lynnwood Police Department transferred Michael to the Snohomish County Jail on July 2nd as the LPD was not equipped to handle Michael’s medical needs. A day later Michael was dead. Michael’s family is demanding and deserves answers.
This young adult shouldn’t have been imprisoned to begin with. Washingtonians, please look at the human costs of prohibition and your hearts and support Initiative 502 this November.
