The brainchild of Madeline Martinez, the cafe was created to provide a safe place for Oregon medical cannabis patients to gather socially to medicate out of public view. Being the first, the cafe created a lot of buzz that traveled farther than anyone could have imagined. With coverage from Reuters, USA Today and Democracy Now, the response was overwhelming.

The cafe remains a popular topic. National Geographic will be including a segment about them in a January edition of their show, “Drugs, Inc.” Madeline reports, “I think they will do a good job of showing the cafe in a positive light. They interviewed patients and staff to get a well-rounded idea of how the cafe works. ”

The cafe continues to grow and thrive, as legalization becomes imminent. Like any well-rounded entertainment venue, the WFCC provides some of the best live music that Portland has to offer. The cafe’s commitment to patients and service in the medical cannabis community has become the model for other safe access points that have cropped up all over the Portland area. This can be seen right here on weedist. Fund raisers for issues as big as legalization for all Oregonians, and as individual as helping out families who need assistance with medical bills, make this a true community resource.

The cafe also offers daily events that keep patients coming back every week with Stoner Bingo on Wednesdays, free entry for veterans on Tuesdays and their High Court of Comedy on Saturday nights. With surprise visits from celebrities from within the cannabis community and beyond when they come through Portland, every stop at the cafe has the potential for excitement.

Noted for their great atmosphere, World Famous Cannabis Cafe will celebrate its fourth anniversary in style on November 16, 2013. With music hosted by Eric Rabe from the cafe’s Thursday night jams, this will be another stellar event to add to an already long list of successes. If you are in the Portland area, you’re going to want to be there. Come on down and find out why they say, “Welcome home.”
