Are you smoking weed? - Weedist

Excuse me, are you smoking weed?”

This is what my roommate said to me as he was walking down the front yard and saw me chilling having a smoke and a beer. I replied in the affirmative and he scoffed and looked around as if he couldn’t believe it.

“Is this a problem?” I asked.

“Oh no, no it’s no problem,” he said, with as much sarcasm one could possibly put into a sentence.

“Good!”

He walked off without another word, and in my head I was like “fuck you, man.” This might have been unwarranted, but his reaction brought back memories of others who treated me condescendingly after finding out that I smoke weed.

I’m sure any toker has had to deal with people like this; the kind of people who still seem to think that smoking weed is so bad; the kind who will condemn it but then go and smoke cigarettes or get obliterated drunk; the kind who think that anyone who smokes weed is lazy, dumb, and will amount to nothing. As a Washington state resident no less, attempting to stigmatize cannabis users where the people voted to make it legal, makes it even more insulting.

These kinds of people piss me off sometimes. Their arrogance and haughtiness is rooted in ignorance, and they insist they are right while refusing to listen to or consider a different viewpoint.

Has anyone else had experiences like this? I wanted to tell my roommate to fuck off, but that would indirectly worsen his view of marijuana and those who consume it. These people can really get under my skin, but if we’re to change their misconceptions, we can’t give other people shit when they give it to us. Weed smokers should set a good example for the naysayers, so that their naysay’s are hollow.
