ag mike dewine ohio medical marijuana amendment proposal rejected Source http://media.salon.com/2013/03/275353188001_2144594302001_020513-policeshoot.jpgA proposal to put a medical marijuana amendment before Ohio voters this November (which gathered more than double the required signatures) has been rejected by Attorney General Mike DeWine.

DeWine cites inaccuracies in the summary as his excuse for rejecting the proposal, complaining about the fact that “persons cannot be considered to be under the influence of cannabis solely because of the presence of metabolites or components of cannabis in his or her body,” which is a scientific fact, by the way, check out this driving test we covered in February showing that even active THC levels in the blood offer no real basis to determine impairment.

DeWine also pointed to the fact that the proposed amendment “omits references to amendment language which repudiates federal cannabis prohibitions” and because the summary did not include information about the regulating agencies, listed in the full proposal as the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Commerce. It is already too late for activists in Ohio to fix the problems for the 2014 elections, but let’s hope that either the next draft is up to snuff for AG DeWine or that there is a new Attorney General to make the decision.
