Medical Marijuana

I haven’t heard any bad stories about the medical marijuana license process, other than one I have, but when I had an opportunity recently to visit MediCann, one of the bigger license distributors in the state of California, I was looking forward to my chance to get another crack at it. With 15 facilities throughout California, mostly in the Bay Area, MediCann is providing a necessary service to people looking for their medicine.

The customer service I received from MediCann over the phone in preparation for my appointment was excellent. They made everything crystal clear, making sure I knew all the documentation I had to have in order to be approved, which is important because a lot of places don’t do that, so you can arrive and be out of luck when you don’t have certain medical records. They were equally helpful when I had to change my appointment to a different day. Even better, on the day of my appointment, the woman working the desk at the office was extremely fast in getting all my paperwork done both before and after my meeting with the doctor, which meant less time waiting and more time talking to the expert.

As I was in the lobby at the MediCann office waiting my turn, a small water fountain sitting on the coffee table in the lobby caught my eye. With mellow music playing through speakers in the background, I thought the scene was nice, but didn’t think much of it. But then a patient came into the lobby to finalize her paperwork after finishing her appointment with the doctor. She’s now chatting with the receptionist, and I overhear her comment on the small water fountain they had running in the lobby. “I love your water fountain,” she said, “it’s so soothing.” It appears I wasn’t the only one to notice. A little water goes a long way.

Nobody likes paperwork but there is a lot, especially for first-time patients, so MediCann suggests you arrive 15-20 mins before your scheduled appointment time to complete it. After finishing mine, the doctor came out and brought me into his office.

MediCann Doctor's Office

This guy was legit. My appointment ended up lasting for about an hour because he talked to me for so long. In the first few minutes of the appointment the doctor took a look at my medical records and gave me a quick physical. The other 40 or 50 minutes were all him giving me an abundance of information on resources both online and in the area that I should check out. He told me stories from some of his patients, and trends he’s started seeing in the past year from his cannabis practice. He wrote down documentaries and books I should take a look at. He even inquired if I had any interest in growing. It was a beautiful conversation.

This is why I enjoyed the MediCann service so much. When you can make a connection with your doctor, and they make a point to really try to help you with their practice, it makes for a wonderful experience. My first time receiving a medical license in the Pacific Northwest was nothing like it. Why? Because in an uncomfortable turn of events, the doctor who was authorizing me to use cannabis, patronized me for smoking it.

Not cool Aurora. You think I shouldn’t smoke? MediCann does.
