Pax Vaporizer Review

The Pax by Ploom is one of the newest, smallest and most fashionable handheld portable vaporizers available on the market. I was initially impressed with the vaporizers discreet portability. The Pax has an aluminum finish available in blue, purple, and black. The vaporizer has some functions which many other portables do not include. The retractable mouth piece doubles as an on and off switch for the unit. Three different temperature settings are accessible by removing the mouthpiece and tapping a single button. An interesting thing about the Pax vaporizer is that there is only one button which is usable.

Simplicity is a key aspect that makes the Pax stand out. The Pax vaporizer temperature settings range from low (370º F / 188º C), to medium (390º F / 199º C), to hot (410º F / 210º C). The light on the front surface of the Pax indicates what temperature the unit is functioning at, as well as the battery life. The lower section of the Pax has a magnetic chamber for marijuana. You can simply pop the magnetic cap off, load marijuana, and snap the cap back on.

The vaporizer also has an automatic shutoff. It senses when you set it down and turns the temperature to a lower stage. Once you pick the unit back up it will automatically return to the previous heat. This function saves a significant amount of battery life. The Pax includes a lithium ion battery. One thing to be aware of is that lithium ion batteries last longer when they are never fully drained, or left on the charger when fully charged.

What really stands out about Ploom’s new creation is the design. It has a stylish iPod look and comes across as nothing like a smoking device. The Pax doesn’t take up much more room than a smartphone. The unit includes a charging dock rather than a corded plug in. Stainless steel airways make sure the vaporized marijuana is clean. Oh, and the Pax comes with a manufacturer ten year warranty as well. All-in-all a stylish product that does its job very well.

Pax Vaporizer Disadvantages

After using the Pax vaporizer I noticed a couple of main things. When set on hot the mouthpiece can get quite toasty. It did not get hot enough to burn my lips, but I did not enjoy the hot setting. Paying $250 for a portable vaporizer can also put a dent in your wallet. The sleek design may be optimal, but other vaporizers on the market can deliver a similar vaporizing experience.

Regardless, the Pax works and looks like a space age vaporizer. You do not have to mess with a bunch of settings to get the Pax to work. It is simple and can heat up within thirty to sixty seconds. Fully charge the Pax, grind your weed, and you are ready for a discreet smoking experience.

Overall, this device does everything that a lower-priced vape does. It obviously has a ton of additional features, but the basic design of the product falls short of expectations.

    The good:

    - Variable heat settings

    - Motion-detector to save battery

    - Rechargeable, dock included

    The bad:

    - Defective by nature. Ploom advises routine maintenance with poorly-packaged food-grade lubricant to maintain the simplest mechanism (heating up)

    - Poor mouthpiece design. The mouthpiece is the switch. It’s plastic connected to metal. The switch breaks (see aforementioned lubricant maintenance) and the mouthpiece gets very hot.

Overall, I suspect the design team started with all the mega-features and forgot to nail the basics. Sure it’s awesome, but it’s not decent. I regret my purchase.

I think that the pax vaporizer is a great little vape but its super expensive and yet when i used my friends it seemed as tho it still combusted, which is not what it was suppose to do! Plus, there are so many other portable vaporizers on the market that are so much more efficient when it comes to producing vapor.
