Old Hippie Asks Obama Some Hard Questions About Marijuana

Everybody talks about President Obama and his broken promises about marijuana, but nobody has gotten him to talk about it.

We tried on Reddit. We tried with petitions. But he wouldn’t say a thing.

Then I realized… this is a job for Old Hippie! So I found a phone booth, hit the vape, manned up, and got him to sit down with me for an interview… Clint Eastwood style.

The problem for Obama is that every time he pisses off the marijuana community, someone like me is going to notice that he’s broken other promises too. So as a public service, here’s a list of five pages of promises that Pulitzer Prize-winning PolitiFact.com found Obama has broken to the American people.

It wasn’t all too long ago that firearms activists, incensed at the Clinton ban on “assault weapons”, organized a massive campaign to kick out every member of Congress that had voted for it. To this day, that November is still known as the “Republican Revolution” in political circles. Two years ago, President Obama experienced the same thing first-hand.

This year, Obama is up for re-election faced with questions from every medical marijuana patient, every recreational marijuana user, and everyone in their families who votes. And as Steph Sherer from Americans for Safe Access says, this year it could be the deciding issue.

So this question goes out to Barack Obama (by way of Quicksilver Messenger Service): “What you gonna do about me?

The alternative is that you all wake up and stop thinking that two parties, both owned by the rich, are democracy. From the ground up, get local representatives elected into your legislation, until they outnumber the big money parties, and take control of your country.

Yeah, I’m just some foreigner, what do I know?

as if any mj user would ever vote republican

The point is not that we’d vote Republican, the point is that Obama is driving us to a third party. In fact, his antics (and the horror of Romney) are making many people consider third parties who wouldn’t have done so otherwise!

This is where I’m at too. I will never consider my vote ‘wasted’ (insanely flawed logic) by sending it to a 3rd party and voicing my dissatisfaction with the current two party system. They serve the same masters. Certainly from a marijuana reform perspective, Obama and Romney both support the same insane war on marijuana, so it’s difficult to even tell them apart.

To say a “3rd party” can’t win and that every citizen should select between Obama and Romney (if they don’t truly support either) is a slap in the face to democracy and oneself.

A 3rd party doesn’t have to become POTUS for us to send a powerful message for cannabis reform. If Obama or Romney loses the election because of a few swing states due to a 3rd party candidate, particularly because of marijuana voters, it will finally get us the desperately needed voting bloc we require to be taken more seriously by politicians. We’re not going to win our rights in a month, this is about constantly moving the ball forward whenever we can, however slightly.

Who wants to debate Obama has been more devastating to medical marijuana than any prior President? Who wants to debate it’s an even greater slap in the face given all the empty promises Obama made in 2008 about not squandering federal resources on medical marijuana in compliance with state law?

I cannot in good faith send my vote to Obama or Romney. If Obama wants to reschedule marijuana before the election, he has my vote. Otherwise, Gary Johnson 2012 for this weedist.

Agreed, our voices will be heard, and the politicians we vote for will support our issues…or quite simply they don’t get our votes. We must force democracy back into action.

I would hope the point is we have more then two choices when it comes to voting for the highest office in our land….Mr Obama, rememeber Ralph Naider

  • The Dude Abides, man.

Obama is America’s best choice for the legalization of pot ever since Ron Paul got shot down by Romney. If Romney gets elected, he’ll criminalize and make it illegal for everyone, even MMJ users. Obama might make it legal, but that’s a bigger chance than if Romney gets elected.
