Marijuana advocacy group ASA (Americans for Safe Access) announced today that it has launched a project in partnership with TheAnswerPage.com (a physician’s Q&A forum run by the Massachusetts Medical Society). The project, named “Wake & Learn”, is a daily Q&A session discussing medical marijuana from a doctor’s perspective, as well as a weekly interactive crossword puzzle to help cement what you’ve learned that week.

Steph Sherer, Executive Director of ASA, says popular support for medical marijuana is strong across the country, but there are still significant gaps in knowledge among patients and their doctors. “We’re hopeful that these gaps can begin to be filled with the relevant and crucial information provided by TheAnswerPage.” Echoing that sentiment, Dr. Stephen B. Corn, co-founder and Editor-In-Chief of TheAnswerPage stated, “Medical marijuana may be controversial, but it is an important area of study in healthcare. Doctors and healthcare professionals must understand the medical, legal, social and political issues to best respond to their patients’ questions and attend to their needs.”

Information is going to be our best weapon in this fight against stereotyping and archaic, imbalanced laws. Wake & Learn is a solid step in a positive direction. This partnership lends credence to the ASA and brings some much needed hard medical scrutiny to cannabis. As a full believer in the power of cannabis as medicine, I do not believe we have much to fear from scientific minds delving into marijuana. This is the true path to rescheduling marijuana and shattering the BS stigma that so heartily dogs our steps. Let the floodgates open, dare these doctors to prove that marijuana SHOULDN’T be legal or even rescheduled, and they will have to fall on their own findings–that cannabis is safe, wonderfully effective, and gentle on your body.
