Great Video Games While High: World of Warcraft

This holiday season, my nephew received a new computer and a subscription to World of Warcraft (WoW). He knew I used to play the game quite a bit and asked if I would please play with him.

In my younger years, I admit, one of my favorite pastimes was to get really stoned and log into Azeroth (the Warcraft universe). I quit playing a few years ago. Life and responsibilities made it so I was able to be online less and less, and, when I could go online, it was often at obscure hours or late at night and none of my friends were playing. That, coupled with hitting the end of the game (as far as advancing levels and exploring new content) made it pretty easy to put down the keyboard and move on.

Well, trying to be a good uncle, I told my nephew I would log on and guide him through the first bit of the game. That was my first mistake. Within an hour of plugging back in, I was hooked like a crack head offering sexual favors at a bus stop. (There is a reason WoW has been called World of Warcrack and that there is a whole movement of angry spouses known as widows/widowers of Warcraft). I think pot is about as addictive as peanut butter, but WoW? When I say WoW should be a federally scheduled narcotic, I’m only half kidding.

If you don’t take WoW too seriously, and playing it doesn’t get in the way of your real life, I am here to once again attest that it is one of the best stoner activities.

The game world is simply enormous, there are plenty of real people playing other characters so you can still socialize and interact with humans, and new expansions of the game have really opened it up to appeal to casual gamers as well as hard core gamers.

Plus, it’s pretty hilarious, too. Lots of fun pop culture Easter eggs to be discovered, and it’s perfect even for those who want to play a completely solo game.

If you’ve got a halfway decent computer (PC or Mac) and are feeling like you’ve got some time to burn, you could do a lot worse than roasting a fat bowl and laying a hefty beat down on some filthy murlocs (aggravating little fish-like monsters).
