Man Texts His Probation Officer for Weed, Gets Sent Back to Jail, Source: http://www.turnto10.com/story/26881741/stupid-criminal-got-weedAnother example of the silly things that can happen when people misuse technology comes in the form of Alvin Cross Jr. of Albany, who texted his probation officer while trying to find a weed connect. “You have some weed?” was the simple message that got Cross sent back to prison.

After receiving the message the probation officer informed the local police department and a search warrant was issued for Cross’ home. Apparently cannabis was not the only substance Cross was in the mood for as police found a bag of cocaine in his possession when they searched his home.

Cross was on probation for an armed robbery offense back in 2006 for which he received a sentence of 15 years in prison, according to Dougherty County Lt. Lance Montgerard in an email correspondence with The Huffington Post. After his arrest Cross pleaded guilty in court (maybe he should have tried the “damn autocorrect” excuse) and received one year in prison for violating his probation and an additional year for possession of cocaine. That’s got to be an embarrassing prison story to have to tell.

It may be bewildering to try and imagine how he could make such a mistake, but how many of us haven’t accidentally sent a message to someone we didn’t intend to? Perhaps Cross sent that message to all of his contacts, although still not a smart idea. Those details have not been reported, so for now we can only speculate.
