Great Music While High: Cherub, Source: http://upc.fm/2013/02/interview-cherub/For me, Cherub is a more recent discovery that is guiltily drowned in satirical-pop and electro-funk. Lighting up to “Doses and Mimosas” and reciting the hook on blast to friends, has the comedic effect comparable to white girls rapping Lil’ Wayne songs. A person can’t be suave and sing along to any of the bands songs, except of course the duo themselves Jordan Kelly and Jason Huber.

Huber and Kelly gained their fandom through 3 years of touring and the viral aid of YouTube, which as everyone knows, ‘it’ doesn’t count unless you’re YouTube famous. The band hasn’t been without its close calls, having to at one point call in a musicologist (that’s a real thing) to analyze their song “Work the Middle” to ensure violations of intellectual-property weren’t being breached.

Cherubs tongue in cheek lyrics consistently inject humor regardless of the sometimes-somber undertones hidden beneath the funk synthesizers, EDM style tunes. A prime example “Freaky Me, Freaky You” from the bands latest album Year of Caprese, which starts out with the lyrics “Whisper in my ear, say something special/ Who cares if you mean it?” Cherub can only best be described as the secret love child of Prince and Justin Timberlake, which was obviously reared by Zapp and Roger.
