My Favorite Strains: Papaya Ice Wax (Dabs)

Medical marijuana has advanced medicating into some great new levels, including high tolerance edibles and, of course, earwax and dabs. Those who aren’t fortunate enough to have access to earwax hash, shatter glass, and other full melt concentrates may not have heard of BHO (aka butane hash oil, which has now become a term for hash extracted using butane as a solvent), but dabbing is a great way to get a strong dose of cannabis.

Even more recent advances have allowed hash makers to provide even more variety to their patients. Specifically, there are now medical marijuana concentrates that are available that are solvent-less, or extracted without the use of any chemical solvents. Solvent-less wax will probably have many different names depending on where you get it and how it was extracted. The Green Solution, one of my favorite Colorado medical marijuana dispensaries, brands all their concentrates under the name IVXX, and they provide a wide variety of wax, shatter, and other full melt concentrates, including “ice wax”.

“Ice wax” is so named because it is their solvent-less wax. The best batches of this hash are 100% full melt and will dab just like wax extracted with butane. Unlike the BHO, however, the ice wax is typically much tastier (thanks to the absence of any chemical) and just as strong as anything blasted through a solvent. Though it looks like standard bubble hash, it’s definitely much stronger and overall just an incredible smoke.

While wax is often a good bowl topper or great addition to a joint or blunt of flower, ice wax is a much better bowl topper because it’s so much stronger then regular bubble hash and also much easier to work with as an addition then the sticky wax. In addition to the improved taste and ease of use, my other favorite thing about solvent-less full-melt hash is that it doesn’t have the strong come down that often comes with BHO. Something about dabs from normal wax typically gives me a bit of a harsh, sleepy come down; however, the 4 or 5 strains of ice wax I’ve tried has none of that effect.

Those in Colorado should check out some ice wax from The Green Solution or another medical marijuana dispensary, but even those not in the Denver metro area but still in a medical marijuana state will probably still be able to find some quality solvent-less hash that will be very strong and tasty in a way that blows away normal wax.
