Cannabis Facts

Seeing as how we, at Weedist.com, are claiming to be the reasonable, responsible, professional pot enthusiasts, I would feel remiss not to mention this story on dogs.

Apparently, there has been a rise in the amount of dogs showing up sick having eaten marijuana in Washington and Colorado. It is believed that lifting prohibition and the continued growth of medical cannabis is simply creating more opportunities for dogs to ingest pot.

Luckily, marijuana is rarely fatal for dogs, but it can cause depression, twitching, tremors, and vomiting. A regimen of IV fluids and anti-nausea medication is necessary to get symptoms under control. Discarded marijuana refuse (such as joint roaches) and goods baked with cannabis seem to be some of the biggest culprits.

Vets say that if you see any symptoms in your dog, go to the vet right away. Vet intervention is a big reason that most dogs recover.

Interestingly enough, there have been reports of vets prescribing marijuana for pets. But in those instances, the administration and dosage is properly administered. Dogs will eat damn near everything, and they will always find something you didn’t think about.

Here in Washington (hopefully more states soon) we are on the new frontier of marijuana freedom. Let’s continue to illustrate that cannabis consumption doesn’t create criminals and negligent pet owners. Keep your baked goods away from Fido (probably a good idea regardless of pot) and dispose of your weed waste in a responsible manner.
