Jay Mack and Big Dub Rebuilding Fundraiser

The World Famous Cannabis Cafe will host a fundraiser for Jay Mack and Big Dub to help rebuild their business on Saturday, January 12, 2013.  Long-time supporters of the cafe, Mack and Dub, suffered a huge loss in November when their restaurant burned in a fire.  Sadly, the building was home to their recording studio, as well as their excellent chicken and waffle joint.  “We can replace the equipment and repair the building,” according  to Jay, “But, we lost nine years of our music in that fire.  We will never get that back.”

Jay Mack and Big Dub developed a following in the cannabis community with their songs that talk about legalization and the benefits of medical cannabis.  They have performed at every major Oregon festival and cannabis event including Portland Hempstalk, the Global Cannabis March and the Jefferson State Hemp Expo, and their generosity spreads far beyond the cannabis community.

They wrote and performed the theme song for the Les Schwab Invitational, which focuses on high school basketball.  You can download the song here.  They also do outreach in their neighborhood with a focus on teenagers.

“We love these guys!  When we heard what happened, we knew we had to find a way to help,” reports Madeline Martinez, owner of the cafe.  “We hope that this party will celebrate their contribution to our community and raise a lot of money to help get them back on their feet.”

Surprise musical guests and a delicious dinner are included in the $20 door fee.  A silent cake auction sponsored by the Women’s Council is one of the fundraising highlights.  Donations will be accepted throughout the evening.  There will be a raffle or two to help add to the pot.  “We know our community will rally their support, and we’ll have a good time doing it!” says Nickie Gates, event coordinator.
