Study: Medical Marijuana May Alleviate Some Symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis

The journal Neurology recently published new guidelines stating some forms of medical marijuana may help alleviate certain symptoms in patients with multiple sclerosis. Researchers found that cannabis can help with spasticity, or muscle stiffness, and with frequent urination. However, mmj did not alleviate tremors or urinary incontinence.

Marijuana Stocks: This Year, April 1 Will Be the New 4/20

This year’s 4/1 is a bigger deal than 4/20, at least from a non-US marijuana stock investing standpoint. Come April 1, not only will Canada’s MMPR program roll-out, but Uruguay’s legalization of marijuana will also take effect. Canada’s Tweed Inc. plans to be the first publicly-traded MMPR licensed producer and projects $100M in revenue within the first two years.

WSJ Poll Results: Weed Is Less Harmful Than Tobacco, Alcohol and Sugar

A new NBC News / WSJ poll asked Americans which one of the these four substances is most harmful for your health. The answers, in order of most harmful, tobacco (49%), alcohol (24%), sugar (15%), and marijuana (8%).  The poll also encouragingly found 57% of 18-35 years old adults have “seen, read or heard a lot” of news about marijuana.

Medical research published in the journal Neuron confirms that cannabinoid receptors are present in the part of the brain that regulates anxiety and fear, the amygdala. More studies are needed to explain why some marijuana users, usually novices, are more prone to paranoid side effects, while most others experience anxiety reduction.

Poll: Majority in Pennsylvania Favor Legalizing Medical Marijuana

A poll released Monday from Connecticut’s Quinnipiac University showed that 85 percent of Pennsylvania voters believe adults should be allowed to use marijuana for medical purposes if their doctor prescribes it. Recreational use however only showed 48 percent support for legalization.

Vice President Joe Biden said in a Time interview on Thursday that the Administration supports smarter enforcement, but not outright legalization. “I think the idea of focusing significant resources on interdicting or convicting people for smoking marijuana is a waste of our resources,” Biden said. “That’s different than [legalization]. Our policy for our Administration is still not legalization, and that is [and] continues to be our policy.”

Wyoming Rep. James Byrd has sponsored House Bill 49, which would decriminalize up to an ounce of cannabis in the state. Someone caught with up to a half ounce of pot would be subject to a civil penalty of $50, the bill states. If they had a half ounce to an ounce, they would be fined $100.
