My Favorite Strains: Head Knocker

The Head Knocker strain that I obtained from my local medical dispensary is becoming one of my daily favorites to consume. With the expert cross of Durban Poison and Trainwreck, almost any weedist connoisseur can find benefit and overall satisfaction within these flowers.

Head Knocker is a hybrid strain that is indica dominant in nature (based on genetic heritage alone… I know this may be confusing, but please stick with me). Durban Poison is a sativa and very sought after strain, because it is known to be a mentally tantalizing and energizing strain that allows for motivation and a productive day after medicating. On the other hand, we have Trainwreck: also very well-known in the cannabis culture, it too is a sativa hybrid, but has an Afgani cross within it that gives the Trainwreck more indica characteristics, as compared to its counterpart Durban Poison.

Overall, this cross allows the Head Knocker (sometimes called Purple Head Knocker based on phenotypic/visual traits) to become more indica-like with its effects, with the sativa buzzing in the background, making it a well-rounded hybrid that can be felt, seen, smelled and tasted as one enjoys.

Visually, Head Knocker is a beautiful flower. Crisp greens make the majority of the buds, but with hints of darker greens and purples filling up the rest of the space on the outer boundaries. The buds are very compact and covered with a blanket of glistening trichomes, and long orange hairs popping out from underneath.

The terpene, or scent profile, is where the lineage of genetics can be found most predominantly, in my opinion. When first opening the container, a large waft of pine and lemon comes drifting up to your nose, which is the Trainwreck coming through. One can also sense a strong, earthy aroma with a sweet undertone, which is the Durban Poison calling to you. Together, once consumed by smoking or vaporizing, a subtle musty, grape-like taste can be experienced, with the clear pine uplifting the taste as you exhale. The terpene “pinene“ (represented most likely from the Trainwreck strain, due to it containing high percentage of this terpene) is what gives this strain its pine aroma and taste, and also can be attributed to some of the health effect and benefits of this strain as well.

As I let Head Knocker work its magic, I start to feel energized, yet not overly anxious about one particular thing, and my emotional state is uplifted. I had a rough encounter with a misunderstanding doctor yesterday afternoon about some new symptoms I’ve been experiencing with my rheumatoid arthritis, and this is why I chose to medicate with Head Knocker this morning; I feel it helps with anxiety and attention, as well as motivation. The indica aspect soon begins to show itself, relaxing me and allowing me to “push” the physical pain aside.

As you may be seeing a trend in my reviews, I tend to lean more towards the indica strains, but that is mostly because of their therapeutic benefits, which I am seeking for my personal treatment. As I mentioned above, the Trainwreck cross has an Indica heritage and the terepene pinene dispersed throughout, which has great medicinal benefits, including analgesic or pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant qualities (all three are great in the treatment of RA and chronic pain disorders).

Take those positive health attributes of Trainwreck and combine them with the enhanced mental aspects from Durban Poison, and you have one of the most balanced of medicinal strains for the average person that you can come across, the wonderful Head Knocker.
