Simply put, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is narcissism at its best.

Since August 2005, the It’s Always Sunny‘s gang has been wreaking havoc in Philadelphia with their self-centered, greedy, egotistical and manipulative ways. And they are funny as all hell, especially while you are high!

The “gang” consists of Dennis, Mac, Charlie, and Dennis’ sister Dee. They are co-owners of Paddy’s Pub, an Irish bar in South Philly. Frank Reynolds, played by Danny DeVito, joined the cast in the midst of the second season. And that’s when the show really got hilarious!

The stars of It’s Always Sunny— Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton and Rob McElhenney— are the show’s creators. They are also great friends in “real life,” and it shows. The result is a camaraderie of plots that always involve heavy doses of unethical behavior and selfishness with ensued hilarity.

The idea for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was born as a short film that was developed into a pilot for FX. It was shot on a digital camcorder by the trio. Incidentally, 18 of the shows were directed and produced by The Wonder Years star Fred Savage.

One of my favorites episodes is “The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention” from Season 5 (also directed by Fred Savage). Frank decides that since he doesn’t have many years left, he’s “gonna get real weird with it.” He sets his sights on drinking, smoking spliffs, and fooling around with his niece, Gail the Snail. Meanwhile, the gang plans an intervention for Frank that includes pointing out his faults and berating him, all while drinking red wine out of Diet Coke cans:
