Law & Politics

On Thursday, as scheduled, protests took place all over the nation. Medical marijuana patients and advocates demanded that President Obama keep his promises to respect state law and stop the Federal raids on legal dispensaries. Here are links to some of the reports in the field from Sacramento, Tucson, and Seattle, and a bonus from Washington, DC with quotes from Steph Sherer herself.

And here’s some video from the protest in Oakland:

The message from our previous article on this action is worth repeating here, as it has to do with important strategy for the 2012 election campaign:

Why are we bothering with Obama when he’s already broken so many promises to the medical marijuana community? Because we’re hoping that somewhere deep down, he knows he did wrong, because he once used marijuana himself. But we can’t just vote for him in the hope that he’ll suddenly change his tactics in a second term. We must hold him accountable now and show him that a committed community like ours is big enough to swing the election. If he doesn’t change his ways, we’ll all go vote for Gary Johnson or Jill Stein.
