Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles mayoral frontrunner and councilman, has been calling on the federal government to reclassify marijuana and finally accept the fact that marijuana has medicinal properties. “I think the federal government should do that swiftly and end some of that hypocrisy on the use of marijuana as a medicine” Garcetti told Huffington Post.

A coalition of California medical marijuana groups has abandoned support of their own measure in favor of a very similar one backed by the L.A. City Council. The primary difference between the measures is the new rate of sales tax in the city-backed medical marijuana measure.
