In a great comprehensive article on CNN Money, Jose Pagliery describes the secret banking methods used by medical marijuana dispensaries and other businesses involved in legal marijuana sales. Since banks can be accused by the federal government of money laundering, they do not openly deal with the legal marijuana businesses. This leads those businesses to deal in cash and bank through inconspicuous holding companies.

Congressman: Ex-DEA Chiefs ‘Arrogant’ to Press for Pot Law Nullification

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) on Tuesday blasted 8 former heads of the DEA for pressuring the Obama administration to crack down on laws legalizing the recreational use of marijuana in Oregon and Washington. “It is arrogant of these former DEA chiefs to encourage the president to nullify these laws,” he said. “The fact that these former DEA chiefs are so focused on marijuana possession is why we have lost the war on drugs.”
