Toronto’s First Medical Marijuana Clinic Will Open in July

According to Leaf Science, the Cannabinoid Medical Clinic will soon be the first clinic in Toronto that specializes in medical marijuana but will not be handing out prescriptions to just anyone. “We won’t be seeing the 18- or 25-year-old who walks in and says, ‘Hey Doc, I’ve got a really bad back’… I’m seeing the patients who have a true medical diagnosis.”

Want to Open a Marijuana Dispensary in Illinois? It Will Cost You

In August, Illinois passed a bill legalizing medical marijuana. A draft of regulations is out, and dispensaries are expected to open in 2015. Iowa Governor Branstad Likely to Sign Cannabis Oil Bill

The chances are very good that Gov. Terry Branstad will sign a bill into law this month to allow the use of cannabis oil to treat severe cases of epilepsy, he has talked to governors who have signed similar laws and he feels Iowa can move ahead without fear of “unintended consequences” in giving legal status to an oil derivative of marijuana.

Claims That Marijuana Use Makes Students Lazy Are Unfounded

Claims That Marijuana Use Makes Students Lazy Are Unfounded

Leaf Online reports on colleges policies of higher punitive action on marijuana use than underage drinking. Administrators believe that student use of marijuana leads to poor academic performance. While there are few scientific studies that directly challenge the idea marijuana users are lazier than students who use alcohol, surveys show this claim is false.

High Times says Colorado has a public relations issue that must be dealt with, products infused with marijuana, “medibles.” As stories about children and some adults mistaking medibles for unmedicated products and eating more than a recommended dosage, some of the public that was barely supportive of marijuana legalization becomes more wary.

It seems like every day brings a new surprise in the awkward transition of marijuana from outlaw status to social acceptance. In the blending between those ready to seize a rare entrepreneurial moment and those whose job is to regulate and tax a business that’s still illegal in 48 states, it’s been tough to select the most discordant set of circumstances.

Colorado’s ‘Cannabis Credit Co-Ops’ Won’t Solve the Marijuana Banking Problem

Because marijuana is illegal under federal law, financial institutions are reluctant to serve state-licensed marijuana businesses. These businesses currently operate almost entirely on a cash-only basis, which raises their costs, increases the risk of crime, and impedes Colorado’s ability to account for these businesses’ revenues.

Health Insurers Just Say No to Marijuana Coverage

Health Insurers Just Say No to Marijuana Coverage

Patients who use medical marijuana for pain and other chronic symptoms can take an unwanted hit: Insurers don’t cover the treatment, which costs as much as $1,000 a month. Perhaps the biggest hurdle for health insurers is the U.S. Food and Drug Administration hasn’t approved it.
