Arkansas Approves Medical Marijuana for November Ballot

In a move many were anticipating, officials in Arkansas approved placing a proposal to legalize medical marijuana on the General Election ballot later this year on November 6th.

Arkansans for Compassionate Care fell short of the required 62,507 signatures last month after some of their signatures weren’t from registered voters. The Secretary of State’s office said Wednesday that the group obtained over 69,000 signatures after being granted additional time.

This could be a major win for the cannabis community, particularly in the Deep South. Passing the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act would give a southern state legalized medical marijuana for the first time since the Marijuana Tax Act was passed in 1937.
