My Favorite Strains: Colombian Gold, Source: https://d2kxqxnk1i5o9a.cloudfront.net/uploads/pictures/menu_items/526529/large_colombian_gold.jpgColombian Gold has a long and popular history with Americans and their love for cannabis.

She is still considered a landrace strain (or conditions are right for natural growth) from the Santa Marta Mountains in Colombia, South America. Made up of Colombia LR sativa x Colombia LR indica/sativa hybrid, Colombian Gold has become more hearty and potent than her parents, reaching highs of 18-20% THC with sativa effects.

She is also a parent to many popular strains, including AK and Skunk #1. Her plants are also known to exhibit two different phenotypes, mainly in the taste factor — one is more diesel tasting, whereas the other is more fruity.

In this day and age of crazy strain crosses, seeing this original beauty sitting on the shelf was very gratifying, especially in knowing there’s a grower here that still appreciates the oldies like I do.

When grown with proper conditions, her buds are large, chunky and made up of rather big and full calyxes. Each one is totally distinguishable from the neighboring calyx. The trichomes, up against the fiery red and tan hairs covering the nugs, look almost grey in contrast to the under-leaf trichomes shining bright white with amber heads.

With citrus aromas, mainly lime and fresh lemon zest or peel, my mind and taste buds are pleased. There is also a scent combination of sweet leaf or fresh cut green grass mixed in.

Her taste profile follows the same lines as her scent, but the citrus is blended and leads into a buttery or creamy sensation before finishing with what seemed to be a green tea taste. Her flowers can be described in three words based on appearance, scent and taste — she’s pure, simple and clean.

Colombian Gold has always treated me well for the renowned wake-and-back morning toke, as well as an all-day use strain and even a beloved nightcap session. Throughout the day she motivates with a level-headed and energized sativa effect. She doesn’t typically induce anxiety or paranoia, which is good for those trying to medicate for those uses.

This is when I get sentimental about my love for cannabis — when the Earth gives you medicine, one should not mess with it too much. Colombian Gold is a prime and true example of such wonderful natural medicine.
