Virginia Politicians Approve CBD Oil Bill, Source: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6f/Seal_of_Virginia.svg/1024px-Seal_of_Virginia.svg.pngVirginia lawmakers have passed House Bill 1445, which allows for the use of cannabis oil in the treatment of medical conditions, specifically seizures. A large amount of the people who have been lobbying their representatives in support of this bill are parents who have children that are wracked with out-of-control seizures.

It’s unclear when the first successful cannabis oil treatment was administered, or even who first explored it as an option. The nature of cannabis, or rather, the nature of our federal cannabis laws, have created such a mysterious origin story for this miraculous application. CBD oil, the non-psychoactive form of cannabis oil, first hit mainstream notoriety with the case of Charlotte Figi. The toddler suffered from intractable seizures and her parents, who had tried everything from crazy-strong, anti-seizure pills to severely restricted diets, eventually turned to cannabis oil as a last resort.

The results were staggering and nearly immediate. Charlotte went from over 50 seizures a day to just a few per week. This little girl finally had a chance at a good life.

Paige Figi, Charlotte’s mother, has openly committed to shipping her personal brand of CBD oil to Georgia, should lawmakers allow its use. I would imagine that she and others like her would be happy to send some to Virginia as well.

At the time of this writing, the bill has passed the House and the Senate, and is awaiting the governor’s signature to become law. An emergency provision in the bill would allow patients access to the oil as soon as this April.
