Growing
Week 8 - flushing cannabis plants, Source: Prospero

Starting to look like some real marijuana!!

As a novice grower, I’ve been trying my best to be open to as much advice as I can find from experienced marijuana growers. Working at a dispensary, I’m surrounded every day by people who know so much about all the different ways to increase yield, potency, and overall quality of marijuana.

I was recently talking to two grow hands at work about flushing cannabis plants. The word itself gives you a pretty good idea of what flushing entails: feeding your plants just water, or water with a supplement that is intended to clean out any other funk that could potentially clog up the roots and impede the plant’s ability to absorb any more nutrients.

It seemed like a good idea, considering that my plants are starting to produce ACTUAL BUDS! I can’t describe just how pleased I am with the progress of both plants, which are now in about their 3rd week of flower. The Triple Diesel has frosty trichromes starting to grow on the leaves, with buds clearly visible; the Third Dimension is similar, if not nearly as pretty looking (so far!)

The plants are doing so well, as I stated last week, I’m getting worried that I’m running out of space. I did finally get to raise the light up as high as I can possibly get it, which has definitely stopped this from happening:

Leaves burned from being too close to the light. Shouldn’t happen again now that I raised the light up much higher!

Just a few nugs and leaves with heat rash on them is definitely OK, as I’m confident that I’ve raised the light up enough to prevent any further damage.

After getting the light raised, I decided to try 3 days of flushing- just giving the plants water with no nutrients added at all. Considering that I’ve now not only been using Other Tomato but have also added two inorganic supplements, Nirvana and Bud Candy AND I want to start juicing my plants again now that they’re getting much bigger, it seemed like high time (pun most definitely intended).

There’s really not much to say other then I definitely recommend periodically flushing your plants. After 3 days of nothing but water, I did a standard feeding; in a week I noticed some serious growth including the first real evidence of the above mentioned frosty-ness of the plants.

Have any other growers out there tried regularly flushing? It’s recommended to flush plants a few weeks before harvest, but I haven’t seen too much on regularly flushing during flower. Though still definitely a beginner, I have to say that I’m already convinced of the results of this simple grow technique.
