My Favorite Strains: Green Crack, Source: Original photography for Weedist.com by Phe HarphaFirst and foremost, I’m not usually one to go for cannabis strains that are negatively named, such as Green Crack, due to stereotypes and connotations of both cannabis and, well, crack cocaine.

A little over 2 decades ago, Green Crush, sometimes known as Green Cush (a play on “Kush”), was born. Some rumors say it was born in Georgia, some say Ohio (because both have towns named Athens and are popular in cannabis growing and admiration). Regardless, it came the West coast and into the hands of supreme weedist, Snoop Dogg.

He shortly after renamed it Green Crack after experiencing her high energy sativa effects and taking a fancy to the strain from the get-go. Since then, some growers and dispensaries have kept the name, for popularity sake, and some have changed it to the original moniker for the respect of cannabis and overall justice for the herb.

Green Crack comes from Skunk #1, her partner in crime however, isn’t known in some lineages. The particular strain I have is Skunk #1 x Sweet Leaf, leaving her a 90/10 sativa dominant strain. Others say she is crossed with an unknown indica strain, or an Afghani strain, some say she could simply just be another phenotype of ’89 Skunk #1 or her daughter strain, Super Skunk. Whatever the case, these flowers shine with beauty inside and out.

My Favorite Strains: Green Crack, Source: http://www.kindgreenbuds.com/gallery/green-crack/green-crack-1.jpgBased on what I have, the buds display a trichromatic coloring of deep greens, olive greens and bright lime greens, all with shorter, orange hairs creeping out from beneath. These buds are very dense, so much so, I needed a grinder to break up a tiny nug for a bowl. The trichome density is there, but not as fuzzy as I’ve seen this strain get before. Based on the label of my jar from this dispensary (Botanico Care Recreational dispensary in Denver, CO) this harvest tested at 25.9% THCa (which will decarboxylate to the psychoactive form of THC upon heating).

Green Crack nugs as a whole, smell of sweet tropical notes with a back end of sandalwood. But once you break up the flowers, a skunky aroma is emitted, and left in traces on your fingers as well. Upon smoking her, the taste brought out is a citrus-y lemon and lime, with subtle hints of pine throughout giving her sweetness some zest and vigor.

After smoking Green Crack (for the first time in probably 3 years) I can feel exactly why Snoop Dogg dubbed her as such. I felt energetic, to the point I almost felt too jittery (but note, I am usually an indica type gal to begin with). Though this extreme cerebral high did eventually calm down to the point where I could enjoy myself with good company.

It also offered a nice pain relieving effect for a short period, but I found myself looking for an edible to take the rest of my pain away after about an hour or so. Overall, I give Green Crack two thumbs up for the daytime smoker, just watch out, she can leave you in an euphoric trance for a brief minute… but I never said that was a bad thing either.
