It facilitates healing and gives one a chance to see clearly. This series, Meditate While You Medicate, will focus on different meditation techniques that can be performed in conjunction with heady indica strains. Practice daily for clarity, focus, peace and enlightenment.

Mantras are meditations of vibration and sound. Mantras can help one to achieve a deeper meditation by assisting in quieting the mind and stilling all thoughts. The vibration of the mantra is said to have healing properties and chakra re-aligning capabilities. One of these mantras is the sacred OM.

Subhamoy Das describes OM beautifully, “If repeated with the correct intonation, it can resonate throughout the body so that the sound penetrates to the centre of one’s being, the atman or soul.There is harmony, peace and bliss in this simple but deeply philosophical sound. By vibrating the sacred syllable Om, the supreme combination of letters, if one thinks of the Ultimate Personality of Godhead and quits his body, he will certainly reach the highest state of “stateless” eternity, states the Bhagavad Gita.”

Follow this simple exercise to embrace the restorative vibrations of the OM mantra. If you have a meditation partner, try taking turns reading the instructions below, softly and slowly to one another. You may also chant together.

  1. Create a relaxing setting, with a comfortable spot to rest. Before you begin, smoke or vape some Ghost OG, a potent indica dominate hybrid known for its muscle relaxing and euphoric effects. Once comfortably stoned, sit in a comfortable cross-legged position, and rest your hands on your thighs or in the guyana mudra position, with the thumb and forefinger touching.
  2. Close your eyes. Begin to focus on your breath. Take deep, slow breaths in and out. Allow the day to melt away, as you bring yourself to center. Deep breath in, long and slow breath out. Let the tension and stress exit your body, as you allow relaxation to settle in.
  3. One you begin to feel calm, take a deep full breath into the belly, and slowly begin to chant the ‘OM.’ Let the vibrations of the word resonate and flow through your form. Take your time with the sound, drawing it out with the full exhale of your breath. Practice the mantra in different tones, experimenting with deeper sounds. Find the tone that soothes you most.
  4. Repeat the mantra several times, drawing it out nice and slowly with each exhale, and inhaling deeply before each new chant. Continue as long as is comfortable, focusing on nothing but your breath, sound and the vibration of OM.

When finished, take a moment to sit in silence with the eyes still closed. Focus on returning the breath to a normal pace and try to maintain the space of silence that has been created in the mind. Lastly, open your eyes softly and smile.
