Sorry Japan, but this just might beat out all of your awesome and kooky vending machine selections.

It’s true that Colorado started using vending machines that dispense edibles last year, but this is the first time people will be able to purchase flowers to smoke from a vending machine. This will certainly help customers who have anxiety about buying weed in public, or who just have general social anxiety when purchasing anything from anyone.

These machines are an awesome way to cater to weedists who would prefer not to have face to face interaction when purchasing their meds. Like with other vending machines for snacks or beverages, American Green, the producer of the machines, expects that their technology will speed up dispensary purchases for tokers who don’t want to wait in long lines. “Once you swipe your ID, you can go shopping on the screen,” says Greg Patrick, a spokesman for American Green. “You can be in and out — literally — in a matter of minutes.”

These weed dispensing contraptions have been appropriately monikered ZaZZZ. They are being positioned in medical cannabis dispensaries in Seattle and verify customer’s age and identity, as medical cards are no longer required to enter the dispensaries.

We saw the repeal of prohibition in the early 20th century and the mark that made on our country and the companies that did it right,” says Patrick. “We’re in that stage. This will only happen once in our country’s history, the repeal of this prohibition.”

While prohibition hasn’t exactly been repealed as the federal government continues to classify cannabis as a schedule I drug (I feel like a broken record at this point), it seems like for now, federal agents and legislators are going to leave Seattle alone on this one.

Although it should be noted that consumers can only purchase cannabis using cash or bitcoin as the federal government does not allow use of debit or credit cards for transactions in cannabis vending.

American Green hopes that they will eventually be able to get the machines outside of medical dispensaries as cannabis becomes a more common and accepted part of culture. According to the company, the machines are theft proof as they have no glass windows to be broken into. “That machine is like a miniature little Fort Knox,” Patrick said.
