Consumption

My Favorite Strains: White Fire OG, Source: Phe Harpha, www.Weedist.comThis stunning flower known as White Fire OG (AKA “WiFi”) was bred by OG Raskal Genetics and comes from a Fire OG Kush mother and the pollen from a The White clone father. White Fire OG is a 60% sativa dominant hybrid known to be a trichome crystal covered flower that holds extreme potency (upwards of 20-25% THC) and an effect or buzz unlike what many other strains can offer.

White Fire OG is a new favorite of mine, one that I first came across last year at my medical caregiver dispensary Golden Leaf (where all flowers are 100% organic and vegan soil grown!). Since then it’s become a staple there, and obviously a favorite of many locals here too, since it’s hard to keep on the shelf. Looking at her beauty, and after consuming and feeling her effects, I can see why this is.

Her name comes from the appearance of her flower buds, and from her heritage. Fire OG is named such due to the numerous long red hairs, or pistils, making the nugget look as though flames are coming from underneath. “White” comes from her father’s genetics that envelop the buds with a dense covering of white, sticky trichomes. Definitely be careful when handling these flowers, as you’re sure to lose precious crystals with each movement of the buds.

Now the smell, on the other hand, surprised me, and was not what I was expecting when I took my first whiff from the jar. I thought there would be some pine, maybe some lemon in the smell — not so. This particular crop of White Fire OG smells very earthy and of diesel, leading to an almost peppery scent.

Growing up outside in the country with vegetable gardens and a family tree nursery, it reminds me of something organic, fresh and sweet — yet I cannot distinguish what it could be… maybe flowering hops? Her taste  follows her smell profile very well, starting off sweet and musky, but then as you smoke more and more, and the char of the flower incorporates into the mix, an oaky, earth and soil taste creeps onto the taste buds, finishing with a nice hint of lemon and pine. There are her genetics shining through!

As I said earlier, White Fire OG is known to be very potent, with THC percentages hitting highs of 25%, and the biosynthetic precursor of THC, or the form “THC” in fresh flowers, THCa with amounts of 17%.

I love high THCa strains. They’re known to help with chronic immune-system disorders such as autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis (which I have), Lupus, Crohn’s disease, etc. They are also known for their anti-spasmodic properties for treatment of epilepsy and anti-proliferative properties for cancer treatment options. The list of benefits goes on and on.

If you can find this strain and grow it, it’s great for juicing for an edible form of cannabis therapy, and also topically in salves and lotions. But once dried the THCa will decarboxylate into THC slowly, and will continue to convert during the smoking or heating process, releasing more psychoactive ‘D9-THC’ to the consumer.

Additionally, the high percentages of THC and THCa present in White Fire OG may be the reason why this strain effects me differently than other sativa dominant strains. After enjoying some WiFi OG I find myself with an enhanced mental state and a positive mood. I feel energetic and uplifted. I don’t feel too “stoned,” “jittery,” or  too “spacey,” but rather very balanced and eager to get up and accomplish something.

A few hours go by and I realized I didn’t take my anti-inflammatory medication today, yet I feel a low amount of joint stiffness and pain, that I didn’t even notice until I made myself think about it. I believe that my energized mental state due to medicating with this particular strain has helped me get over the hurdle of starting my day in the presence of pain.

And as the high diminished, I still felt positive and motivated…which lead me to another mid-day toke and enjoying White Fire OG once more.
