My Favorite Strains: Jack Frost, Source: http://budgenius.com/photo/01e305_397c5259b856d7ff264b0132d40119ab/123653_dry_1.jpgJack Frost can be categorized as a good winter strain in my opinion, not only because of the name or its frosty appearance, but also because of the effects it delivers to the consumer.

This strain is a tri-cross of Jack Herer x Northern Lights #5, which is then bred with White Widow. Sometimes it is even further crossed with the elusive Rainbow Kashmiri strain, although, not many growers mention that in the breeding pattern anymore.

The balanced nature of her genetics (or a mixture of the sativa dominant Jack and the Indica natured hybrid of N.L., crossed back with the hybrid qualities of White Widow), allows Jack Frost to be more on the sativa side of a good hybrid blended herb strain, with a 16-20% THC range.

Her buds are very conically shaped, almost with a sharp point at the very top and spear-like. The red hairs are rather short in comparison to the strains I’ve recently reviewed, but the trichome density is definitely presented in extreme numbers, which even linger up the hairs and down the stems — reminding me of pine trees covered in snow. (I may use these for some “stem tea” since those trichomes need not be wasted.)

The smell wafting off these flowers from inside my jar is reasonably pungent, thanks to her parent Jack Herer’s characteristics. The strong odor of pine is at the forefront and rather unforgiving to the more subtle scents that arise when breaking off the flower from the stem. A sweet lemon aroma escapes when grinding up the calayxes, which gives me a flashback to “Italian Lemon Ice” treats as a kid, when I open up the grinder. After taking a few hits of this delicate, yet forthright flower, the sweet pine mixed with a lemon cleaner taste follows the aromatic profile (possibly with a subtle sensation of grapefruit too)… but a spicy hint of hops and pepper hit as the sweetness disappears.

Jack Frost’s refreshing citrus tastes and piney aromas make me want to go outside and enjoy the high country Rocky mountain sunshine, as if I were at the beach… except with 4+ feet of snow on the ground. The uplifting and slightly euphoric effects motivate me enough to make it happen, and neither pain nor anxiety are dragging my feet in doing so.

Overall this sativa dominant hybrid strain, made from 3 top favorite strains of mine and called Jack Frost, is great to enjoy in the day time for a medicated yet energized approach, or after a rough day to help you unwind, while still being productive before bedtime.
