Great Movies While High: The Master of Disguise, Source: http://content6.flixster.com/movie/11/16/98/11169800_800.jpgSome movies you watch high because of their artful music, stirring imagery, profound meaning, or capacity to open your mind – and some you just watch because they are just bullshit comedy and you want to laugh your ass off at the most base, immature humor. The Master of Disguise definitely falls into the latter category.

Now just as a preface, if you can’t allow yourself to be immature and laugh at childish (and really, just well… dumb) humor, then you are not going to enjoy this film. However, if you are someone who can let go of all self-dignity and laugh at fart jokes (literally, one of the running jokes in the movie is that the main villain is always interrupted during his evil laugh by his uncontrollable flatulence), then this just may be the film for you.

Rocking an impressive 1% on the Tomatometer at Rotten Tomatoes, Master of Disguise is a comedy starring Dana Carvey, Jennifer Esposito, Harold Gould, James Brolin and Brent Spiner, that came out in 2002 but feels like a 90s movie that was a bit late to the party.

The film follows the adventures of Pistachio Disguisey, as he discovers the legacy of his family as Master’s of Disguise, secret agents who use their natural talents of disguise to help save the world from evil. Pistachio grows up working in the Italian restaurant owned by his father, Fabbrizio Disguisey who has kept the family secret hidden from his son.

After his parents are kidnapped, Pistachio is visited by his mysterious grandfather who teaches him the art of disguise so that he can save his family and stop the evil Devlin Bowman.

Pistachio is aided by his lovely ‘assistant’, Jennifer Baker, who ends up doing most of the investigative work to discover the plot and whereabouts of Bowman. Pistachio mostly just spends the duration of the film acting silly and getting himself into trouble only to get himself out of trouble with his equally silly disguises, which include a schoolgirl, a Bavarian Tax Authority, Quint from Jaws, Tony Montana from Scarface, George W. Bush, and a patch of grass, complete with cow pie to boot.

Now maybe I’m wrong and this is a complete miss, and I may have only enjoyed this film so much because I had seen it a lot as a kid. But I really do feel that this film has some golden moments of comedy so silly that they’re hilarious, and that other weedists will appreciate it.

You may not have the most confidence in this film after my introduction, but I would urge you to give Master of Disguise a try and see for yourself. You might be surprised at just how much fun you can have watching such a ridiculous film.
