My Favorite Strains: Kandy Kush - Weedist | Source Phe HarpaCalling all Kush fans! Winner of the ‘Western Slope Cannabis Crown’ in Aspen, CO in 2010, this Kandy Kush is definitely an all-around prize winner, for breeder and consumer alike. I’m lucky enough to live in the town where this strain came to life, and to have a superb example of the winning cut.

This strain is rumored to be a cross of Trainwreck and OG Kush. However uncertain, that rumor can stand with truth as one experiences her potency. Her flowers are VERY dense, holding true to the OG nature, along with a dense furry covering of amber trichomes. I’ve not seen this amount of trichomes in a while, to the point where I had to whip out my botanical lenses and admire her beauty at a closer angle.

Now, for the smell, I admit, it’s a little much for me. I say this because I have two cats in our house that I care for, and ammonia scents can be off putting to some feline owners, due to the beloved litter box. Whereas on the other hand, my boyfriend LOVES this smell and would wear it as a cologne if he could. With the first smell, my face jumps back from the jar. I am sort of taken aback by such pungent aromas, but am also excited and curious. As I take a softer whiff, I realize there is a sweetness masked by this pervasive, ammonia smell, like a lemon “Pine-so,” but without the chemical notes.

I put my feelings and forethought aside and decide to go ahead and try this Kandy Kush. Before I could take a hit though, I had to clean my fingers of the resin collected by just breaking up a smaller, but dense nugget to partake in.

First hit, WOW! That’s all I can say. Yes the pungent ammonia comes through with the taste, but you can also taste much more of the sweetness these flowers have to offer. I take a second hit, and I am still taken aback by the taste quality. The sweetness is not of a fruit or “candy” but, in my opinion, a sweet herb such as tarragon mixed with sweet pine sap.

I recommend this strain to all Weedist fans and cannabis connoisseurs alike. She is extremely potent and allows for a good time if used with moderation. I did feel a bit “too energetic” right after medicating with Kandy Kush, but soon leveled off to a nice, enjoyable euphoria and elated body buzz. All in all, one word comes to describe this strain, a word we all know and can use with vigor in this case, and that word is DANK. And ‘dank’ is what all top shelf herbal medicine should strive to be.
