Sherbet from Redwood Garden Delivery, Bay Area, CA (@redwoodmeds)

I’ve been toking for about 15 years now, so I’d more or less settled on what I look for in bud — give me limonene, give me pinene, or best of all give me both! I was quite content to puff away at Super Lemon Haze or Sour Diesel, thank you very much.

That contentment has been shattered, and the culprit is Sherbet.

When the first freshly-rolled joint hit my lips, I must admit that I hesitated. I wasn’t ready. It felt wrong somehow to jump right in to conflagration with this new acquaintance which instantly captivated me with a mellifluous bouquet of nectars on the tongue. No, this time we’re going to take things slow and savor every step.

Fortunately I was alone, so I lay back on the couch and just tasted this bud. It was as if a whole pack of Jolly Ranchers matured into a refined, adult taste, ditched the sugar, and blended all together in a freshly-ground flower. Apple, nectarine, raspberry, and — most unexpectedly of all — a clean aftertaste of lychee spread like honey over my tongue. For a moment, I was afraid I’d regret lighting such a tasty joint.

I didn’t. The smooth, easy smoke billowed in like velvet, and within two seconds I was glad I’d already reclined. The high burst like a water balloon in my cerebral cortex, rendering me speechless and dreamy. I drifted for a few minutes on pink sunset clouds before realizing that I hadn’t hit the joint in a while.

Soon enough, however, the cloudy haze gave way to a clear, easy body lift which was gentle enough to let me get some great work done (I’ll admit that coffee helped). As the work day progressed I took it a little easier and took small homeopathic hits to maintain the creative flow without blasting back off again to Oz.

I was stuck in my ways, but those days are behind me: the fruity, heady, creative buzz of Sherbet has shoved the standard choices aside to become my newest favorite strain.
