My Favorite Strains: Fruity Thai, Source: Original Photo by Phe HarphaFruity Thai comes from the breeding of Somango and Chocolope strains (Chocolope being Chocolate Thai x Cannalope Haze), and is one of my new top-5 favorite strains.

Made specially here in NW Colorado, Fruity Thai is one for the true weedist – the cannabis connoisseur. Bred and grown with love and patience, along with perfect curing, this strain knocks a punch to all your senses. The smells, the tastes and the effects are all desirable… leaving it to be, in my opinion, the perfect “boutique-type nugget.”

Though, surprisingly enough, with the cross of the Chocolope being mostly a Sativa-heavy hybrid and the Somango being a 75% Indica-dominant, the Fruity Thai phenotype ends up being a heavier, Indica-dominant hybrid (which I must say, is my favorite type of Indica… having a little zing from the Sativa still lurking from behind).

As you can see in the photograph, these buds are covered in thick, dark orange/red hairs, and sparkling with a nice coverage of trichomes also. Although the trichomes are clear with hints of amber and perky, they’re smaller in size. The buds are on the larger scale and very dense in packing. These factors together give more of a “bag appeal” for customers and connoisseurs alike.

Then comes the second part in choosing your choice strain or flavor — the smell. The scent of Fruity Thai is like no other I’ve smelled in a long, long time. It has a very sweet aroma, with a creamy or velvety texture as it hits your tongue. As you exhale, the taste turns into a sharp, tart, sweet, almost pineapple or strawberry flavor… which soon turns into an aftertaste of anise (black licorice), or even a rich coffee or espresso.

To imagine this flavor as a food or candy, I would say it’s like a chocolate covered gummy bear turned inside out. You taste the fruit and then the chocolate in a very delicate, but distinct manner. This development of flavor and terpene profile took delicate selective breeding practices, and much time to get the desired cross between the Somango and Chocolope strains. You can definitely taste the expertise put into this strain when you get to enjoy this beautiful flower from start to finish, time and time again.

As someone who uses cannabis to medicate on the daily, and throughout the day, I’m always looking for something that can give me energy, but also be a good pain reliever. A strain that won’t leave me tired or run-down in the after effects, but one that will level off and leave me feeling just as great as while it was working its magic.

Thus, I find Fruity Thai a great strain for morning use, all day use, and great for an end-of-day stress reliever or for kicking back and relaxing. If you’re looking for the same, this strain (or even the parent genetics of Chocolope, Somango, Chocolate Thai or Cannalope Haze) will do wonders for you as well. Or if you’re just in it for a great looking, smelling and tasty treat, this can be one of your new favorites also.
