Great Music While High: La Roux, Source: http://pinkmafia.ca/blog/wp-content/themes/cooldept/thumb.php?src=/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/la-roux1.jpg&h=360&w=600&zc=1;q=90I was high and searching for new music online the first time I ever heard La Roux, and it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. The upbeat bouncy synth sounds mixed with the melancholic, and at times sassy, lyrics of La Roux had me instantly hooked. Not to mention singer Elly Jackson’s unique and stirring voice. It was as if the gods of ganja and synthpop had sent their lovechild to lull my heart away into the radiant electronic night.

Elly Jackson has been adding her own unique brand to the synthpop scene since La Roux released their first single with French independent record label Kitsuné Music in 2008. Since then La Roux has grown in popularity in the synth pop scene, gaining fans and winning numerous awards, including the Grammy for Best Electronic/Dance Album in 2011. La Roux has been featured and sampled in the film Pitch Perfect and even had single “Bulletproof” remixed by Skrillex.

La Roux’s upbeat single “Bulletproof” will captivate and empower you (not to mention the great visuals in the music video). “I’m Not Your Toy” will speak to the hopeless romantic in you and have you dancing on your feet (or couch). The sultry voice of Elly Jackson and the wide array of whacky synth beats will surely charm the ears of the music loving weedist. Even if you’re somehow not a fan of the music how could any toker avoid being mesmerized by Elly Jackson’s vibrant and zany hairdos.
