2014 Washington Cannabis Cup: Welcome Home Out-of-Towners, Source: http://assets.hightimes.com/subcoolseeds.jpgThe Washington Cannabis Cup was last month, so why am I writing about it now? Was I that stoned? Well yeah, but that’s not the reason. The reason is I thought it might be fun to try something a bit different.

I decided not to speak to the Cannabis Cup before consuming all the samples I got there. How glad am I that it took this long? Pretty damn stoked, and believe me I took my time. My mission was to smoke and reflect daily, just to see if my opinions changed over time. The experiment worked. Albeit different, the Cannabis Cup fucking rocked this year. At first, I thought I’d be telling you about crazy snaps outta epic rigs – and best believe they were karazy, but after a month of smoke and pondering; I’m proud to say it was the attendees that made this one in the end.

Last year the Cannabis Cup was in Seattle proper, or better said at Fremont Studios in a Seattle town called Fremont. This year it was down in Everett or “outside the bubble” according to this spoiled-ass always-on-foot Seattleite. And when I say it was in Everett, I’m saying it was IN Everett. The flyer said Comcast Arena, but that turned out be partially inside and mostly outside, quite literally on the sidewalks and adjacent parking lots. I distinctly remember the WTF expression on my own face, when I parked right outside of a courthouse!

I feared the worst, but thank God, two days strong it was so not a problem. A veritable stoner army laid claim to the downtown of suburbia and it was all good. Yes, there were cops, no, I did not see citations given. I also did not see anyone acting a fool.

Like I said, despite some really epic grass (in all forms) and glass, the people made this one.

The majority of those people were not from around here by the way, and that was the sickest part. I can only speak for myself and the Fweedom crew, but I feel like I only talked to people from out of state and that was so cool. It was cool because they too knew what was up. You would have thought they just wanted to smoke outside and smoke in peace, God bless them, but what I found was a lot more engagement. My experience with out-of-towners typically is that they still can’t believe how we live and want to hear all about it. Not knowing of, or even paying attention to strains is a prime example.

Well, the tide is changing everywhere and this Cannabis Cup was proof positive. “This is so legit,” and “You guys are so lucky,” has turned into, “Wow, this Chem Dawg smells much better than mine,” or “Nice Mothership, my man in Chicago has one just like it.”

That last one literally got 2 high fives outta me. One for knowing Motherships and two for bhombing out in Chitown. Maybe I am gushing a little, but I am just so glad people are really starting to learn about dank.

If you’re wondering about all of the results, here they are.

If you’re wondering what my winner was, no question, the Jack’s Cleaner submitted by Team Fweedom. It did not win or place, but I am telling you it was too bomb and I can’t wait to review it. Jack’s Cleaner is a local strain put out by scene legends TGA Subcool. It’s a most splendid cross between Jack Herer and a Northern Lights/Purple Haze cross and it hits like a freight strain. Imagine a super sativa that’s so diesel it gets you right in the gut too. That’s my pick and I implore #seattlestoners with access to track it down. Washington Cannabis Cup continues to be a killer event with the best people. I’m already looking forward to next year and still wish one day to make it to Amsterdam.

P.S. Shouts out to Team Fweedom, who took 3rd place medical with my 2nd fave, Girl Scout Cookies by Aurem Farms. That makes it the 3rd year in a row they have won or placed and deservedly so. Their work and service continue to be PHENOME-nal.
