Edibles

Edibles Review: Choclava by The Growing Kitchen - WeedistI’ll start here by saying that I’m a big fan of The Growing Kitchen, a medical marijuana dispensary based in Boulder, Colorado. They are known for making many kinds of all-natural (often gluten-free and sugar-free) treats for patients and now recreational customers. We’ve covered some of their edibles before, and their products can currently be found all over Colorado.

One of their absolutely strongest edibles is the Choclava, a chocolate-flavored baklava pastry that contains 200 mg of active THC. Since this strength of edible can only be sold for medical use (as the state limit for recreational edibles is still 100 mg per item), these really have become the perfect example for why you should always take small amounts of a new edible and then WAIT at least 30-45 minutes before getting some more.

The flavor of the Choclava is actually really good- a chocolate center with a crispy outside pastry makes for a delicious alternative to the traditional brownie cookie. And this might actually be a problem, because it makes it very easy to eat too much since it tastes so good. My own experience is that this edible is one of the strongest I have ever encountered — the most I’ve been able to eat at once is half, about 100 mg.

Chocolate center and flaky pastry, but crazy strong.

That 100mg absolutely rocked me, and ever since then I’ve only tried a very tiny, tiny bit when I’ve gotten this edible. My experience is not at all unique — several friends have quite literally vomited after trying a bit of these because it was just too much for them. Many of the other edibles from The Growing Kitchen come in indica or sativa, but some of the reason for the intense strength here might be because the Choclava is a hybrid, which causes an all around total effect. Even eating little bits at a time tend to be just a bit too much to do anything other than veg out on the couch.

Can an edible be too strong for someone’s own good? Choclava is definitely a medical marijuana edible that, while very consistent and tasty, should absolutely be taken a tiny bit at a time. Even those with the highest of tolerances should be careful with The Growing Kitchen Choclava.
