Growing

Vegetative Stage, Aesliip's Grow: Final Vegetative Weeks - Weedist, Source: Aesliip

After 11 weeks of vegetative growth, my Blue Dream plants have reached a good size and it’s now time to move into the flowering stage.

The main plant is about three and a half feet tall, and the smaller one is about two feet tall. Both are healthy looking which is good because I’ve heard that it’s pretty easy to get some kind of infestation or disease. I tribute my success to the wise advice found online and given from readers.

Now seems like a good time to give another run-down of my operation, and everything I’ve learned.

Here’s the facts about my set-up:

Type: 2x Blue Dream, Sativa
Sex: Unknown
Stage: Vegetative
Light Schedule: 12AM-6PM ON; 6PM-12AM OFF (18 ON, 6 OFF)
Watering: Every 2-3 days (when the top gets dry and crusty)
Light Type: 2 Indoor plant growing lights

I’ve learned that growing cannabis doesn’t have to be complicated. As I was getting ready to start growing, I spent time researching what to do. I read things about monitoring pH levels, using Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium fertilizers. I also read about HPS grow lights, Metal Halide lights, and LED lights.

Reading all of this confused me, and it seemed like in order to grow some cannabis I had to buy all this stuff and follow all these steps like some kind of long science experiment. I’m sure these things are necessary if you’re trying to grow a large crop and want the maximum yield. But for me, this was just a trial run in my closet. I didn’t need all that.

I decided to get some soil, some seeds, and some lights and jump right in. No reason to worry about all that technical stuff.

Vegetative Stage - WeedistI learned about plants in general. I had always thought that plants grew up on a timed schedule. But it’s actually the light that dictates how they grow and when the flowering begins. I think it’s pretty neat that changing the light schedule to 12 ON/12 OFF signals to the plant to begin flowering. It gives me control over when this plant begins to flower.

I learned that cannabis plants aren’t as fragile as I was made out to believe. My smaller plant underwent alot of trauma. It got bashed around through two transplants. Twice after a long weekend away I came home to find it fallen over. Despite all this, the plant is now healthy and strong; though it hasn’t grown as much as the main plant. I read somewhere that trauma early on can cause the plants to turn hermaphrodite, but I’m not really worried if it does.

So far it’s been fun and I’m excited to get into the good stage. My next steps will involve brainstorming ways to prevent the smell from overwhelming my house!
