Dabs have become a culture unto themselves, with many long time herb smokers now 110% worshiping at the altar of wax, shatter, and other full melt concentrates. Wax is definitely an expert level in the big video game of cannabis, with considerably more things to know about than simply tokin’ some straight-up herb.

Before I go too far off the rails already with this, I want to remind readers that we here at Weedist have racked up a nice little database of great info regarding wax over the last few years. A friend at my day job at a marijuana dispensary recently turned me onto the idea of flashing wax to get a much better dab, and since then I’ve been flashing my wax before every single session.

To flash wax using just a lighter is simple, but it requires a good surface to melt the wax down onto; if you like to flash your wax and don’t want to ruin a glass dish or plate, I highly recommend going to a medical marijuana dispensary or head shop and getting an oil slick pad.

Product Review: Oil Slick Pad, Raw Wax, before any flashing, Source: Prospero Weedist

Raw Wax, before any flashing. Slick pad keeping it nice and dry!

It’s an incredibly simple device that is very similar to a place mat that your Mom used to put down so that you wouldn’t ruin the dinner table when you ate as a messy kid. Non-stick on both sides so that you can get repeated use out of it, this is great to melt down your concentrates to make them easier and cleaner to dab with.

Retailing in Colorado for around $20, this is definitely a must-have for the regular dabber that wants an easy surface to flash their wax. One word of advice, however- do NOT cut a slick pad in half for any reason, because it’ll start to release some chemicals that will get into your product. Before you buy too large of a size, just make sure it fits your needs since you don’t want to cut the oil slick pad.

Other than that, slick pads are a great tool for using with full melt concentrates. Even if you aren’t going to flash wax, it’s a great thing to have under your rig to catch any excess errl that might come off your rig. Because it’s easily washable, you can definitely wipe any excess off easily. I definitely recommend the oil slick pad for any fan of dabs and full melt concentrates.
