Cannasoup… “So Many Many Reasons It’s So Mmm Mmm Good”

With the strange and oddly widespread cold front that has seemingly settled across country looking to stick around and generally give the US a nastily cold winter, I’m going to let you all in on one of my favorite winter time savory cannabis treats: Cannasoup shooters.

As an added bonus, it’s super easy to make:

Here’s What You Need:

  • Soup: For the seasoned cooks or impassioned amateurs out there, I highly suggest making your own soups for this. This recommendation is purely based on food quality and flavor, a simple store bought soup or broth will also work just fine. Whether you’re a soup-from-the-store type or a sassy soup chef at home, aim for soups with a high liquid content as it provides a better medium in which your cannabutter (or cannaoil) can dissolve.
  • Cannabutter (or cannaoil): 1-3 tsp per shooter, depending on preference.

How to Make Cannasoup Shooters:

Just heat up a small amount of soup or broth and drop some cannabutter or cannaoil into it and let it blend. The savory nature of soups and broths really masks any lingering “grassy” flavor that sometimes accompanies cannabis infused products.

Personally, I opt for a very liquidy soup, sometimes I actually make a soup and then strain out everything but the liquid. (Or put the whole batch through the blender to liquefy it). This works great as a morning coffee substitute. I never really got into coffee and a little cannasoup provides some good nourishment while delivering your cannabis in a very easy to take and discreet manner.

You can use cannabutter or cannaoil, the difference is largely about flavor and how much you mind eating a little butter. I prefer the butter, it really rounds out the flavors of the soup and cannabis and it goes down exceptionally smooth.

This is also a great method of ingesting cannabis if you have a hard time with other methods or if you want to get the effect a little sooner than eating solid cannabis food. The aqueous nature of hot soup has already dissolved the cannabis and, being liquid, it seeps through your intestinal lining much faster as it can bypass a good chunk of the digestive process. As a bonus, heat has a natural relaxing effect and it can open up congested breathing passages.

Like I mentioned, any savory hot liquid will work as a cannasoup shooter so you really do have a lot of options.

Andy Warhol, eat your heart out.

My personal favorite is to make a French Onion soup with homemade duck stock then strain out all the liquid and freeze it in small batches that I can quickly heat and be on my way. It is a warm, satisfying and surreptitiously stoney treat that goes miles to fight the cold.

Enjoy!
