My Favorite Strains: Twista, Source: Prospero WeedistSometimes you just need a pick-me-up. Everyone has something they’ve used before for the necessary boost of energy to get you through the rest of whatever it is that requires you to have your proverbial shit together: coffee, soda, an apple, candy bar, etc. For many weedists out there, sativa strains of marijuana are the best option.

Sativa strains are generally considered to give the user a more energetic and usually headier feeling. For those fortunate enough to live in a medical marijuana state and have a medical card, we have access to a wide variety of strains that allow a more precise decision to be made. Some sativa strains like Sour Diesel or Durban Poison are really strong and can often be just as debilitating and non-functional as the heaviest of heavy indica strains. Often times strains that are very high in THC can cause users anxiety and lead to the “stoner paranoia.”

For medical marijuana patients (and soon, legal buyers in Colorado and Washington and hopefully many other places) who want a strain that is very “up” and energetic without too much of a strong heady feeling, there are many options available. One of my favorite strains for an energetic feeling is Twista.

I’ve seen Twista in a few Denver medical marijuana dispensaries in Colorado and it always has a very citrusy, tropical smell with some dense nugs and bright orange hairs. The taste is excellent and wakes up the palate, with that sweet taste in the back of the throat and the citrus in the front. The high THC in Twista makes for a racey high that I like to describe as the “clean the entire house” kind of feeling. There is very little noticeable body high and a lack of “munchies”, which many patients may not want. It’s very functional and best during daytime, as I would definitely imagine that the high THC would keep even the highest of tolerance smokers up at night.

While there isn’t too much official information on the genetics of Twista, most sources indicates that it’s based on Twista 108, which itself is a version of “Twister” seeds from Flying Dutchman. I haven’t seen many clones of this and haven’t gotten to see it growing myself, but it’s most definitely a sativa dominant strain.

Has anyone out there grown this strain? Let us know in the comment section, and definitely pick up Twista if you see it at your medical marijuana dispensary and you want an excellent upper.
