City of Denver Launches Official Marijuana Policy Guide Website, Source: http://www.colorado.gov/marijuanainfodenver/

The city of Denver launched a new section on the state of Colorado website Monday, specifically answering the FAQs that come with Colorado’s rapidly approaching new retail marijuana market.

As Denver’s Westword very accurately pointed out, the site is mostly telling folks what they can’t do with marijuana. The top banner on the page features a scrolling series of images with simple rules written on them, such as “It is illegal to consume marijuana in public”, “It is illegal to take marijuana out of the state”, and “You must be 21 to have or use retail marijuana.”

At the bottom, you can go to the “definitions” page, which breaks down various buzz words and phrases that you might hear if you find yourself getting busted for marijuana in Colorado from here on out. “Open marijuana container” is on there, as well as the definition of the word “publicly” and “public areas” (separate definitions for each).

There are also resources and FAQs for parents and guardians, as well as for citizens and visitors, business and property owners who might be affected, and existing medical marijuana business owners and growers, too.

While, as an existing Colorado medical marijuana red card holder, I’m not at all happy about the onset of open container laws for pot, it’s just one of those things that was inevitable with government regulation. I applaud the city of Denver for being proactive and creating this website in time for what is expected to be a rush of canna-tourism in Colorado and to address any lingering concerns that Colorado residents might have about what is sure to be an interesting January 2014.
