Gear

I just recently got a new phone as a result of my last smartphone breaking down from some mystery something or other. The new little pocket computer was definitely a bit of an upgrade, which is always part blessing, part curse. Yes, it’s great that my phone has all kinds of apps to take better pictures, but it’s also got infinite distractions like Candy Crush (which I still haven’t downloaded and have yet to try. It’s a bit like a hard drug at this point- I don’t want to start because I’ve now seen several friends fall victims to whatever the hell the point of Candy Crush is) and Angry Birds (which I do play and enjoy, especially the Star Wars one.)

The positive benefits are that I now also have an app that gives me pretty much everything I need to know about marijuana in one place in the palm of my hand, which is something I really can’t say I’ve quite seen before.

Thanks to an app called Marijuana Handbook, my smartphone is now the ultimate marijuana reference; welcome to the future, stoners.

Made by Fallacy Studios with information pulled from a few different sources (including Kind Green Buds.com for what seems like all the strain information, The Stoner’s Cookbook for most of the recipes, and multiple references cited throughout the many informational sections), I was definitely pleasantly surprised by how much information was available in this easy to use app.

This app contains plenty of good strain information, with often very detailed sections including flowering time for growers, smell, and effect. A separate section on growing is a great primer for those who enjoy marijuana but have never actually grown it, or interacted with that very important side of the process. A “facts” section has plenty of the incredibly abundant positive facts about marijuana that should be good if you ever find yourself in an argument with someone who still doesn’t seem to get with the majority of Americans in seeing cannabis a beneficial and harmless substance.

The simple navigation makes it great for when you want some info while maybe less than aware, and the price at $2.99 is pretty reasonable (the free “Lite” version is fine, just with lots of pop ups ads. If you can handle it and don’t want to part with the extra $3, I tried both and really don’t mind the ads that much.) This is available for both Android and Apple, so everyone can have all the great marijuana knowledge in their phone.
