Cannanaise: Marijuana Mayonnaise, Source: Weedist

As a sandwich aficionado, I cannot stress the importance of a good mayonnaise. I once knew an old man who referred to mayonnaise as “slider.” I agree. It’s what you put on the bread to combat the dry mouth feeling that comes with plain bread.

The slightly sweet, slightly tangy flavor really ties all the other components together and brings forth a new flavor that is the sum of the parts. In short, it’s magic.

I want to share my marijuana mayonnaise recipe. As with cannabutter and cannamilk, there are two main ways to do this. The first way is to simply make a mayo and add some ground buds/leaves directly to the mix. This way works somewhat, but I find it requires a lot of bud to be effective and is rather sloppy as you can taste/see the buds on your sandwich. After all, if it reduces the overall sandwich quality, it’s dead to me.

The second method is to replace the oil in the recipe with cannabis oil. I find this method to be much smoother and it’s easier to titrate your preferred potency.

Here’s What You Need:

  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp white vinegar (or balsamic if you like that flavor)
  • ½ tsp Dijon mustard
  • Sea salt, to your preference
  • About a cup of cannabis-infused oil (I say “about” because, for some reason, when you emulsify dressings the amount of oil it takes varies slightly from batch-to-batch)

How to Make Marijuana Mayonnaise:

I *strongly* recommend using a food processor or a blender (an electric hand blender will work as well). You can use a bowl and a whisk, but your shoulder will hate you afterwards.

Add everything to the mixer except the cannabis oil and give it a little mix until the solution looks homogeneous.

This is the crucial point: add the oil VERY slowly. Have the mixer running and trickle the oil in through the top. My rule of thumb is to not let the stream of oil get thicker than a toothpick. If you have a decent blender or processor, the oil should emulsify nicely and start to thicken the solution.

Just keep adding the oil until the mayo is as thick as you want it. That’s it, enjoy!
